Catriona Lowe

Catriona is co-CEO of Consumer Action Law Centre.

Prior to joining Consumer Action, Catriona was a Director in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (then) Policy & Liaison Branch. She was Deputy Director at Consumer Law Centre Victoria and spent 5 years in private practice as a litigation lawyer. She has undertaken consumer advocacy on issues affecting Australian consumers across a range of markets including financial services, utilities, telecommunications and general consumer products and services. She has a particular interest in the intersection between consumer protection and competition law.

Catriona is also the current Chair of the Consumers’ Federation of Australia, a member of the Board of the Financial Ombudsman Service and a member of the Victorian Motor Car Traders' Guarantee Fund Claims Committee.

Carolyn Bond

Carolyn is co-CEO of Consumer Action Law Centre.

Carolyn has worked in the consumer advocacy field for over 20 years, focussing on credit and debt issues. She continues to campaign on issues such as debt collection, credit marketing, reckless lending and credit reporting. Carolyn has been Chair of the Consumers’ Federation of Australia and has represented consumers on a number of bodies, including the Banking and Financial Services Ombudsman Board, the Legal Services Board and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Consumer Advisory Panel.

Barbara Romeril

Barbara is the Chair of the Consumer Action Law Centre's Board.

Barbara is Executive Director of Community Child Care and has over twenty years experience working in community services, including five years as Executive Director of the peak body for financial counselling and consumer support services in Victoria. She has worked in federal and state government, large voluntary organisations and community based associations and has broad experience in community development, social policy, needs analysis, service development, implementation and review. She also has broad experience in governance of community organisations.

Barbara was a consumer director on the Board of the Energy and Water Ombudsman of Victoria Inc. for five years and has held the position of Vice-President of the Victorian Council of Social Services. She was also appointed by the Premier to the Victorian Relief Committee.

Barbara holds a Master of Arts in Social Policy, Graduate Diploma in Social Science – Community Development and a Bachelor of Science.

Gerard Brown

Gerard Brown is a Director of the Consumer Action Law Centre.

Gerard is the Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs for ANZ. His responsibilities include leadership of ANZ's Corporate Responsibility agenda, Stakeholder communications, Community Relations and Government & Regulatory Affairs.

Gerard also oversees ANZ's Corporate Community Investment strategy including programs and initiatives to improve the financial literacy and inclusion of some of the most disadvantaged groups in our community. Gerard is a member of the Group's Executive level Corporate Responsibility Council.

Previous roles at ANZ include Head of the Office of the CEO and General Manager for Government and Regulatory Affairs.Gerard joined ANZ in 1999 from the Allen Consulting Group, a public policy, regulatory economics and external affairs management consulting firm, where he was a Principal.

He is a past Director of the Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman scheme

Gerard holds a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Letters in history.

Anna Stewart

Anna Stewart is a Director of the Consumer Action Law Centre.

Anna is currently in the position of Manager Retail Markets Regulation at AGL Energy. She began her legal career practising in a large commercial law firm, specialising in construction litigation.  A strong sense of social justice then led Anna to the Consumer Law Centre where, for four years, she undertook both legal and policy work, particularly in the areas of energy and telecommunications. 

She has held a number of board directorships, including the Public Interest Law Clearing House, the Consumer Credit Legal Service and FebFast Ltd.

Anna holds a BA (Hons)/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.

Roslyn Hunter

Roslyn is a Director of the Consumer Action Law Centre.

Roslyn's background is in corporate finance and business banking and also personal banking, having worked for two of the major banks for most of her career.

She currently presents small business seminars and workshops for the Victorian Government Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, lectures undergraduate business students at RMIT University and undertakes a range of consultancy roles.

Roslyn was previously on the management committee of CCLS, one of the two predecessor organisations of Consumer Action and has a good appreciation and regard for the substantial body of policy and advocacy work the current management and staff continue to successfully build upon.

Paul Murfitt

Paul is a Director of the Consumer Action Law Centre. 

Paul is the Chief Executive Officer of the Moreland Energy Foundation Limited (MEFL), a position he has held since January 2008.  MEFL is a unique community-based not-for-profit company established by the Moreland City Council in 2001 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Moreland community. MEFL delivers sustainable energy information, support and direct assistance across all sectors of the Moreland community through a range of services and projects. 

Paul has also worked as a manager in State Government agencies such as Sustainability Victoria, and has held research and advocacy roles in various not-for-profit and tertiary education sectors. Paul was a representative on the Office of the Regulator-General’s Customer Consultative Committee for several years immediately following the formation of that office following the privatisation of the energy sector. 

Paul holds a Masters degree (research) in Environmental Policy and currently teaches sustainability related subjects at RMIT University.

Rob Acton

Rob Acton is a Director of the Consumer Action Law Centre.

Rob has more than 30 years experience as an economist, administrator, company director, senior political advisor and public servant.Rob has been an adviser to Victorian government ministers, including a former Minister for Consumer Affairs.and a federal government MP. He has also worked for a federal parliamentarian, a trade union and has been a public servant in the areas of workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety and training.

Rob’s particular areas of expertise relate to the operation of government and the development of policy. He has extensive experience and knowledge of government regulation, from a legislator’s perspective and also from a business operator’s perspective. He sees the need for regulation to be balanced and fair, particularly to protect the most vulnerable in our community

Rob owned and operated a small business for over 10 years which gave him insight into the practical implications of government regulation of small business, as well as the requirements for running a successful business and meeting the obligations and demands in employing staff.
