On 1 January 2019 Victoria introduced new rules to help people who have difficulty meeting the cost of their electricity and gas bills. Consumer Action has produced this short factsheet about those changes.
Consumer Action is focused on making sure the new rules result in better outcomes for all Victorian households who are having trouble paying their energy bills.
No one should have their energy disconnected or be mucked around because they are having difficulty paying for the essentials.
We have designed the short form below to collect feedback from Victorian financial counsellors and other community workers about poor responses to payment difficulty by electricity and gas providers.
Filling out the form for each individual Victorian household you assist who has got a bad outcome from an energy retailer will help us inform the Essential Services Commission (who regulates these businesses) and other stakeholders about what action is needed to protect households from bad practices.
