Tracey Walsh – Royal Commission Witness: Media Release

Today Tracey Walsh, a 53-year-old Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman from Victoria, gave evidence to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation & Financial Services Industry in relation to the Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund, a provider of funeral insurance products.

Ms Walsh gave evidence to the Royal Commission about:

  • Believing that the Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund was an Aboriginal organisation.
  • Paying over $10,000 for a plan with a maximum benefit of $8000.
  • Understanding that the product was a savings plan.
  • The subsequent process of raising a complaint with the Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund.

Ms Walsh is not available for comment.

Consumer Action will be making limited comment and will make further submissions to the Commission in the next week.

It is expected the Royal Commission will shortly publish a transcript of the hearing and release Ms Walsh’s witness statement.
