We\’re HIRING an Assistant Director – Policy and Campaigns

About the role

  • Location: Melbourne CBD
  • This is a full-time permanent role (part time considered)
  • Salary range ($121,048.38 – $126,099.86) pro rata for part time

The Assistant Director, Policy and Campaigns assists the Director of Policy and Campaigns to lead an energised and effective Policy and Campaigns team to lead change to policy, laws and industry practice across a range of consumer issues, advocating for consumers across Victoria. Reporting to the Director of Policy and Campaigns you’ll be supporting our Policy and Campaigns team with responsibility for aspects of strategy, planning and the implementation of campaigns and policy activities. This role will have a particular focus on financial services policy, including insurance, but will also lead advocacy for other identified priorities.

 

Specifically, the role will:

  • Identify systemic policy issues from outreach and Consumer Action’s casework and advice lines and develop informed, credible and evidence-based solutions.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and participate in engagement with government, industry, politicians and regulators.
  • Manage the production of written materials such as submissions, briefs, reports and media material.
  • Manage the performance, development and wellbeing of Senior Policy or Policy Officers.
  • Contribute to the development of Consumer Action’s strategic direction and support the Director’s strategic leadership of the Policy and Campaigns team.
  • Manage projects and funding arrangements.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to advancing the public interest and social justice.
  • Tertiary qualification in policy, legal or other relevant discipline.
    Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to consult, collaborate, negotiate and influence.
  • Experience as a passionate leader who can engage staff in the strategic vision, communicates effectively and can execute complex plans.
  • Substantial experience in a policy and campaign development and influencing role.
  • Demonstrated specialist writing, editing and communication skills, including confident and professional verbal communication.
  • High level of cultural competency and values diversity and inclusion to support a cultural and safe workplace.
  • Expertise in complex stakeholder management and/or community engagement, including with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities.

Their public facing presence in the media is critical to Consumer Actions success in advocating and campaigning for Victorians.
