Accident Towing Regulation – Joint submission
Consumer Action has partnered with Western Community Legal Centre to provide a submission to the Essential Services Commission on its Draft Report on Accident Towing. The submission welcomes the focus that the Commission has placed on consumer outcomes in its Draft Report, and supports its recommendations.
Some consumers experience problems as a result of tow-truck drivers directing vehicles to particular smash repairers. Using authorities signed by drivers, some unscrupulous ‘agents’ and lawyers take advantage of the civil justice system to recover inflated amounts for repairs of a damaged vehicle, and seek recovery of that amount from an at-fault driver or their insurer.
