Submission: Review of Victoria’s wrongful disconnection payment
Consumer Action remains strongly supportive of the Victorian wrongful disconnection payment legislative obligation. It continues to fulfill its role as an incentive on retailers to guard against non-compliance with their legal obligations relating to disconnection, as demonstrated by low disconnection rates, and to provide some compensation to consumers wrongfully disconnected from supply, which is a distressing event. There may now be a case raise the payment amount by prescribing a new amount in Regulations made under the legislation to ensure that the payment remains effective as an incentive against non compliance.
