ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Solicitor to join the Domestic Building Legal Service (DBLS) at Consumer Action Law Centre. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director, DBLS, you will provide expert legal advice, representation and strategic casework for Victorian homeowners experiencing domestic building disputes. This is a unique opportunity to combine complex litigation and dispute resolution work with policy, advocacy and systemic reform initiatives in partnership with Justice Connect, helping to create a fairer building system for Victorian consumers.

SPECIFICALLY, THE ROLE WILL:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice, representation and advocacy to homeowners experiencing domestic building disputes.
  • Manage a complex caseload, including litigation, dispute resolution and proceedings before VCAT and other relevant forums.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies that deliver positive client outcomes and support systemic change.
  • Identify emerging issues from casework and contribute to policy, law reform and advocacy initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Justice Connect and key stakeholders to deliver an integrated, accessible and client-centred legal service.
  • Build strong relationships across the sector and represent Consumer Action and the Domestic Building Legal Service in forums, consultations, training and stakeholder engagement activities.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE:

  • A current unrestricted Victorian Practising Certificate, or eligibility to hold one.
  • Significant post-admission experience in litigation, dispute resolution and complex legal casework.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality legal advice while managing competing priorities and complex matters.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive professional relationships.
  • A commitment to trauma-informed, client-centred practice and improving outcomes for people experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage.
