Consultation on Owners Corporations Amendment Regulations 2021
Consumer Action has made a submission to the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety relating to proposed Owners Corporation Amendment Regulations.
The submission argues that the regulations’ proposed approach to financial hardship is out-of-step with a modern regulatory approach to supporting people experiencing payment difficulty. Rather than requiring a lot owners to ‘demonstrate’ financial hardship, the submission suggests that payment assistance (for example, a payment plan) should be an entitlement based on a request for assistance and account information held by the owners corporation. This would assist overcome the barriers and stigma associated with proving one is experiencing financial hardship.
